Win-Win Haven't heard the term Win-Win yet? Now is a good time. The principles of win-win negotiation requires that everyone ends up with something more desirable than they started with. How can this happen? Well, what if someone negotiates a great deal on a cleaning service but, the cleaning service ends up losing money by performing the service for such a cheap price. The cleaning service won't be real excited about performing that service at a loss. They'll have to create a better deal with someone else to stay profitable and may end up ignoring the first client. After awhile, the great deal doesn't look so great for either party. What started out as a win-lose negotiation became a lose-lose deal. It usually does. On the other hand, if both negotiators realize everyone has different needs and tries to understand the needs of the other, they might come up with something more creative. For instance, the party needing the cleaning, might be an accounting firm and the cleaning service may need their books done. They could work out a deal where both businesses benefit by using the others services, then they each win in two ways. They each get a service they need and they also sell their own services. Now, we could even take this win-win scenario a step further. Each business does business with other people. It is unlikely that their customer lists are the same, so if they advertise each other to their own clients, they can each come out with more customers. Can you see how powerful this technique can be? Every business should always find ways to do win-win deals, always! For more about win-win negotiations, read a good book called Art of Negotiating . This book has been around for awhile. Gerard Neirenberg originated the term "Everybody Wins®" which is so much like win-win. Another good book is You Can Negotiate Anything by Herb Cohen. It's a fun read. |

How Do I Win When I make my own web page, I win when my objectives are achieved. On the web, I want to have strong traffic of good customers (whatever that happens to mean to me). My affiliates are happy to pay my commissions because they are making money from my efforts. I bring targeted traffic to my site by many methods. Outside the web, I put my web address on every piece of marketing material I ever create. I include my web address on business cards, newspaper ads, radio spots, TV advertising and even novelty pens. On the web, I would start with the search engines. I might want to do some targeted email. News groups could be a great place to recruit customers. My customers would return often, because they feel like they gain something every time they do. |
|
How Does My Customer Win? My customer wins when their needs are fulfilled. I could just get the product to them, but quite often, they might need other things. One customer might need everything fast. Another feels price is the most important, while another needs something I don't carry. I can refer them to a great vendor who does (and collect a commission for doing so). I know useful things about my profession. My customer wants information. I can share the information. That provides my customer with knowledge. They want to know how to be better. If I give them great information each time they return, they will continue to come back again and again. |

Who Are My Partners? Anybody who helps me help my customers are my partners. Anybody who provides things I need are my partners. The Search Engines bring customers to my web page. They are my partners. My vendors and my affiliate programs are also partners. |

How Do Search Engines Win? Search Engines provide ways for us to drop money as we pass through their site. They may have banner ads for us to click on which drop a fews cents in their pockets. We can also purchase web site traffic from them. I'm sure they have lots of other ways to make money and could be thinking up more ways right now. When we help increase search engine traffic, they become happy. Some people use only one search engine. Others use different search engines for different things. With all the different search engines, why do we pick one over another? If we find what we want, we'll go back. If you take the word "travel" and look it up in the search engines. You may find about 47 million pages about "travel." Which one should be the first one listed on the search engines? The obvious answer would be the best page. How do they determine the best page? The answer to this question is constantly evolving. This becomes a problem if you are trying to stay at the top of a huge list like "travel." The goal of every search engine is to increase web traffic through their site. They accomplish this by providing customers with what they are looking for. The best content! If I can make my own web page with the best content, I can increase search engine traffic, because they try to design their algorithms to increase web site traffic to my site. The more specific my focus on a keyword, the better my web page fares for that keyword. If my site has too broad a scope, it dilutes the content with respect to that keyword. |

How Do My Partners Win? My vendors and affiliate partners win if I help them make lots of sales. This sounds pretty easy at first, but in order to do this, I must make my site work. Many try and fail. How can we succeed? I please my customers by providing them with great content, making sure the search engines are happy with my web pages because they see great content. Then my site should have great traffic. The more traffic, the better. Traffic can do phenomenal things, or it can just flow and do nothing. If I increase the activity of the traffic (they buy something) then I make more money. If my affiliate partner is the one they buy from, they will be happy. If we increase the buying activities while increasing traffic, then growth happens in two ways at once. |
